Abstract

Title: Analysis of the Role of Architects in Disseminating Content Through Social Media; Potential Code of Ethics Violations and Prevention Efforts

Technological advancements have encouraged the architectural profession to utilize social media as a means of education and promotion. Platforms like YouTube provide architects with the opportunity to reach a wider audience, but are vulnerable to ethical breaches, from content production to consumption, when the displayed house plans and access points could potentially lead to criminal activity. This study aims to examine the impact of disseminating building reviews through social media on the architectural code of ethics, identify the challenges faced by architects in the digital era, and provide recommendations for maintaining professional integrity. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on content analysis of YouTube channels that specifically display reviews of residential homes in Indonesia for potential violations of the code of ethics. The research results indicate that there are three primary aspects of the code of ethics that have the potential to be violated: client privacy, respect for intellectual property rights, and the delivery of inaccurate information. Additionally, the study provides ethical guidance for architects on sharing building content on social media. Therefore, clear ethical guidelines, ongoing education, and collaboration with professional associations are needed to ensure that social media practices comply with ethical standards. This research is expected to contribute to the development of architectural practice in the digital era.
