Abstract

Title: Tracing the Sustainability of Culture and Historical Values in the Design of the Majapahit Museum in Mojokerto

The Trowulan Cultural Heritage Area is an important site in Indonesian history, preserving remnants of the Majapahit Kingdom, which was one of the largest and most influential kingdoms in the history of the Indonesian archipelago. The Majapahit Museum is located in this area, playing a vital role as an institution for preserving Majapahit artifacts. The museum also serves as an educational medium and a visual representation tool, which is expected to be able to reconstruct the glorious image of Majapahit City in the past. This study aims to examine the extent to which the architectural design of the Majapahit Museum can represent the atmosphere of this historic city, while still considering the local cultural context and maintaining its inherent historical values. The main focus of the study is how efforts to preserve Majapahit history and culture are reflected in the physical design of the museum. The method used is a qualitative approach, with literature study techniques and direct field observation. The research process includes the stages of data collection, data analysis, and the integration of results to obtain accurate conclusions. The findings demonstrate that the cultural and historical values of Majapahit can be represented through architectural elements, including spatial planning, building materials, distinctive ornaments, and cultural symbols. Moreover, the incorporation of local cultural elements not only strengthens the architectural identity and builds emotional connections with the local community, but also respects and represents local culture, thereby reviving the cultural and historical heritage that is valuable for the local community and the world.
