Title: Study of The Quality of Publick Space in Magetan City Square Towards The Presence of Street Vendors
As one of the public spaces in the city centre, the square acts as a place to accommodate various social-recreational activities of the community. However, with the growth of the economy, the needs of this sector place also increases such as the activities of street vendors that can interfere with the beauty and circulation of the square which is used as a public space in Magetan Regency. The handling of public space should get its own attention continuously and improve its quality. According to Mehta (2013), public spaces that have good quality must fulfil five aspects, namely inclusive, meaningful activities, comfort safety and pleasurabilty. The purpose of this research is to identify the quality of Magetan Regency square towards the existence of street vendor activities as a public space based on direct observation and user perceptions so that in the future it can be used as a consideration for revitalising areas that are physically and visually accessible, safe, open and meaningful in their activities and designs. This research uses qualitative methods with direct observation techniques at the location, interviews with street vendors and visitors to Magetan City Square and documentation. The results of the analysis show that although the activities of street vendors can liven up the area but in terms of comfort and aesthetics are very disturbing especially if there is a buildup of buyers. In addition, Magetan square will decline in quality if there is no effort to regulate security and additional access to the entrance.
