Title: The Influence of Morphological Periodization on the Identity of Urban Villages in Yogyakarta
This study examines the influence of morphological periodization on the identity of urban villages in Yogyakarta, particularly within the Yogyakarta Palace (Keraton) area. The purpose of this research is to identify the changes in urban morphological elements over time and their influence on the formation of the area’s identity. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with historical map analysis and applies urban morphology theories from Roger Trancik and Aldo Rossi. The findings reveal that each historical period—political, wartime, and natural disaster—has generated transformations in the physical elements of the city, including building masses, street networks, and open spaces. However, core elements such as the philosophical axis and the Keraton complex have persisted as permanent features that shape the identity of the urban village. This research highlights the importance of conserving morphological elements to preserve the identity of historical urban areas.
