The Kenduri tradition is a communal meal observed as an expression of gratitude, a prayerful request, or a commemoration of significant events, typically conducted through shared dining, with nasi tumpeng as the central dish. This tradition embodies values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and respect for others. This study aims to develop a food-serving medium that integrates these values within a contemporary cultural context. Modern gathering practices—such as eating with family or friends during casual hangouts (“nongkrong”) and conversations at restaurants—reflect a continuity of social values found in the Kenduri tradition, albeit in a more casual form. This becomes the foundation for designing a product that is both culturally relevant and functionally appropriate. The SCAMPER method was employed to explore product idea development, while the ATUMICS method was used to extract traditional values as design inspiration. The product was designed by adapting the tampah (a traditional woven bamboo tray) as a food-serving base and equipping it with a handle to replace the tray. The final design takes the form of a triangle, inspired by the philosophical meaning of tumpeng, which symbolizes the harmonious relationship between humans, God, and nature. Research findings indicate that the developed design successfully integrates traditional values into a modern food-service context in Sundanese restaurants while also providing a functional solution for both food service and food transport.
